Snowy mornings at the lake with you

Sometimes the stars just align…

It’s not someting you can plan for. No, because so often we make plans and the world simply laughs at our plans and throws us all kinds of curve balls to throw us off course…

But sometimes… just sometimes things come together - perhaps even better than you could have even imagined. This snowy lake photoshoot was one of those special times.

With hopes of catching that soft morning light, Jer and I loaded our gear into the car just after 7am. It was still dark as we pulled out of the driveway, canoe strapped to the roof racks, and a road coffee to share on the 20 minute drive to the lake. to our despair it started to rain just as we hit the road. Both of us tried to make the best of it and assured each other with words like…

“atleast it’s was just a light sprinkle” or “maybe it will stop by the time we reach the lake…” But oh no… the world had other plans for our photoshoot…

As we took the turn to head up the rural road to the lake, the rain drops started to turn to fluffy white flakes of snow, and the farther we drove up the road, the more it began to fall. By the time we reached the park gate it was starting to stick on the ground just as the sun’s light began to light up the sky.

Our lovely couple pulled up just behind us, and all of us stood in awe of how magical it all was.

I’ll skip the part about how heavy the canoe’s felt as we made our 15 minute treck down to the lake from our cars. Let’s just say we had a good laugh about it all when it was over and it’s one of those things I know we will be laughing about for years to come.

When we made it to the lake, the beach and all the surrounding trees were sparkling with freshly fallen snow as it continued to fall softly all around us. Magical? Yes, indeed.

And so we paddled in the canoes; we frolicked in the snow; we photographed; and after all that we decided it was time to warm up around a fire. We sat around chatting, telling stories and laughing. What a pleasure it was to spend time with two such wonderful people.

Just as our fire was dying the snow stopped falling. And all that was left was the silence of the lake - you know that kind of incredible silence that only comes after a snowfall. And so it was time for us to leave that perfect moring behind.this is one I will always remember.
